On the cover: At Tailored Society, it’s about far more than men’s suits—it’s about crafting exceptional garments that take personal style to the level of a modern art form.

Cover Story: Tailored Society
It was one of those perfect autumn afternoons—the kind that makes you grateful to live in Indiana, where Main Street still feels like Main Street. The leaves had just begun to turn along the brick-paved stretch in Carmel’s Arts & Design District when I stepped through the door of Tailored Society. I’d heard murmurs about this bespoke clothier, but nothing quite prepared me for what awaited inside.
Imagine a private club where fine whiskey mingles with the scent of leather, conversation hums softly under the glow of warm brass fixtures, and somewhere, Sinatra’s timeless voice floats through the air, as effortlessly stylish as the suits around you. That’s Tailored Society. Though it looks and feels like a gentlemen’s lounge, it is, in fact, a haberdashery—albeit one so beautifully executed that you half expect someone to offer you a cigar and your preferred seat by the fire.

The Strength of Sophistication
Every so often, I’m reminded why I love what I do—and why the stories we tell in Sophisticated Living matter. They remind us that elegance and resilience often go hand in hand. Case in point: my friend, architectural designer, artist, and all-around inspiration, Gary Nance.
We caught up recently over coffee, and Gary shared some extraordinary news: He’s now represented by CMG Worldwide. Yes, that CMG—the Beverly Hills-based agency that manages some of the world’s most celebrated icons across entertainment, sports, and history. For a Carmel, Indiana–based architectural designer to join their roster is no small feat, but it feels like a perfect fit for someone whose life has become a masterclass in reinvention.

Binkley’s Kitchen & Bar
There are neighborhood restaurants, and then there are neighborhood restaurants. The kind where someone—often owner Courtney Chesebrough Whistler herself—greets you like you’ve just returned from a month abroad every time you walk through the door. That’s Binkley’s on College Avenue, where the beer is cold, the food is consistently excellent, and the odds of running into someone you know are higher than a Colts fan’s hopes in September.

Cadillac Takes the Grid
I’ve always believed that certain sounds define a generation: the crackle of vinyl, the ping of an arriving text, the clink of ice settling into a well-poured Negroni. But come early March, prepare to add a new entry to the cultural soundscape: the unmistakable growl of a Cadillac Formula One car barreling into the world’s most rarefied racing series at decidedly un-Cadillac speeds, starting with the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne on March 8.
Yes, you read that right. Cadillac—the marque long associated with tailfins, presidential motorcades, and ride comfort that makes private jets jealous—is joining the grid of the globe’s most elite sporting spectacle. And they’re not doing it quietly. Backed by General Motors and guided by performance-minded visionaries, the new Cadillac F1 Team arrives like the impeccably dressed guest who strolls into a black-tie gala five minutes before the doors close and somehow still steals the show.

As a plastic surgeon, I spend my days helping people feel more confident in their own skin. But when I walk through the door at home, all pretense and polish vanish the moment Louie—our mischievous, impossibly charming dog—bounds toward me with unbridled joy. No filters, no filler—just pure, unconditional love. It’s humbling, really, that a creature with zero regard for designer shoes can remind me daily what grace and gratitude truly look like.
My husband and I often joke that Louie is the most photographed member of our household, but in truth, he’s also the heart of it. His ability to turn an ordinary evening into something extraordinary—with nothing more than a tail wag or an insistence on sharing the couch—constantly reminds me that sophistication isn’t just about aesthetics; it’s about warmth and connection.
That’s why I was delighted to sponsor Sophisticated Pets, a new feature within Sophisticated Living that celebrates the beauty, loyalty, and love our animals bring into our lives. These companions aren’t just accessories to our homes, they’re part of the very fabric that makes life richer, messier, and infinitely more joyful.

Happenings of note in January & February.
Sophisticated Society, presented by Reis-Nichols Jewelers
This fall, my wife and I will officially earn the title of “empty nesters.” Our son, a senior in high school, will head off to college, leaving the house as quiet as it has ever been since 2003. Granted, with his older sister already in her third year at school in Chicago, we’ve had some practice. We even got good at the distance thing—though I’ll admit, I’m secretly (and not so secretly) hoping he chooses a school that doesn’t require a TSA pat-down to visit.
This is not the first time I’ve written about him here. Years ago, I called him my hero. When he was little, he lost all hearing in one ear. He adapted faster than his mother and I did—a resilient kid then and now. He never let it slow him down. While I spent much of my childhood avoiding word problems in math class, he has always had an engineer’s brain.
I should have known when he was four. Our vacuum cleaner broke, and one afternoon I walked into the family room to find it scattered in pieces across the floor with my son squatting in the middle like a pint-sized mechanic. I asked my wife why she let him dismantle it. She calmly replied, “Because he said he could fix it.” As I started to explain why that was a terrible idea, the vacuum roared back to life. Lesson learned: Never underestimate him.
