Cincy Calling
There is something deeply satisfying about discovering a summer outing that feels elevated without requiring the logistical choreography of a European vacation. For those who appreciate a bit of style, a bit of sport, and a very good excuse to spend a day away from home, the Cincinnati Open may be the Midwest’s most civilized August tradition.

What Comes Next
Over time, the most meaningful transitions rarely announce themselves.
In my work as a wealth management advisor, I am often present for moments of change—some anticipated, others less so—but all consequential. What I have learned is that these moments are rarely about beginnings. They are about what comes next

I’m always amused by how something as unassuming as a tail wag or a soft purr can stop a room cold.
In my work as a plastic surgeon, I spend much of my time thinking about proportion, harmony, and the subtle architecture of beauty—what restores confidence, what refines, what brings a face back into balance with how someone feels inside. And yet, every other month, when we publish our Sophisticated Pets section, I’m reminded that nature has been doing this work effortlessly, and with far more humor, for far longer than I have.

It’s a peculiar kind of time travel, isn’t it? More reliable than memory alone. You may forget what you wore, what you ordered, even what you said—but a song will remember for you. It keeps the room intact, the light just so, the air exactly as it was.
Mine arrives with the opening piano of “Tiny Dancer” by Elton John. And just like that, I’m no longer here. I’m in a swimming pool in Palm Beach, more than twenty years ago, under a wide and forgiving sky.
My daughter was six months old.
She floated in oneof those little inner tubes made for babies—equal parts adorable and slightly ridiculous—her legs kicking with the uncoordinated determination that only infants possess. I was in the water with her, gently pushing her from one side of the pool to the other. Back and forth. A quiet rhythm. A kind of choreography only the two of us understood.I had headphones on—large, I think. This was before everything became so small and seamless. Back then, listening to music required a bit of commitment. You wore it, almost like a helmet, as if preparing for impact.
And perhaps, in a way, I was
